Crucial issue

In any capital investment of acquisition process, safety continues to be an absolute threshold issue.

That's because safety should never be compromised - and nor does it have to be, because systems and expertise should exist within organisations to ensure a high threshold is always maintained.

Within Enthalpy is a dedicated safety culture and system, complete with its own specialist resources.

Of course, every client or owner also has a duty or interest in imposing their own approach.

Meanwhile, Enthalpy will continue to commit itself to working within any best practice safety system and process, and continue to keep an open mind to improvements.

Building safety into studies

Safety should be considered as one of the first and most critical issues in an organisation.

The study phase is the best place to start the process of building safety into the design and operability issues of any project.

By maintaining a continual focus on creating a safe working environment, organisations can rise above a last-resort approach that simply provides personal protection equipment.

Industry expertise

Enthalpy has long participated in the practical application of best processes and practices in the field.

For example, at BHP Billiton's Mount Arthur North Coal Project, Enthalpy contributed to the field safety resources with a result of three LTIs in two million worked hours, giving an LTIFR of 1.5 and the CIFR of 7.1.

Enthalpy's safety policy

Enthalpy is committed to ensuring a safe and healthy work environment is provided and maintained for all personnel.

In fact, safety is given a threshold priority over all other business objectives.

Enthalpy senior management accepts responsibility for effectively implementing this policy and provides systems, training, supervision and visible support to ensure a safe work environment.

Line managers are responsible for their safety performance and must accept that all injuries are preventable and continually aspire towards this.

All employees have a duty of care and therefore the responsibility to perform their duties in a manner that ensures their own and others’ safety.

To achieve this Enthalpy will:

  • Give due consideration to issues of health and safety in all stages of planning, design, construction and operation to incorporate systems aimed at eliminating or controlling hazards.
  • Commit sufficient resources to effectively implement safety management systems in all areas of operation.
  • Ensure all personnel are competent and suitably skilled to undertake their duties, productively and safely.
  • Continue to develop a program of ongoing education and training to enhance skills and increase safety awareness.
  • Promptly and completely investigate, correct and report all accidents, incidents and hazardous conditions.
  • Collectively support and participate in promoting pro-active safety management systems. This includes striving for continual improvement through audit and evaluation programs.
  • Ensure all management levels and the workforce understand and accept their health and safety responsibilities and are held accountable for those matters within their control.
